First time posting a blog, but wanted to have a place to keep track of the project status and keep myself accountable on the progress. First thing first, the goal of this project is not only to further develop my skill and experience as a developer and software engineer but to also build a product for something I am passionate about.
A little background about myself and my passion, after the first few years working at McKinsey, I quickly gained the “Mckinsey 5” an extra 5 pounds, but in my case it was more like 25 pounds and 4 inches around my waist. Wanting to get get back into shape and learn something new. I decided it was finally time to learn to ride a bike. With the help childhood friends, I learnt how to ride a bike and within the month had my own road bike. 10 years later I am still in love with the sport, the culture and the community There is not a day I don’t talk or think about something cycling related.
For this project, my goal is to build a solution that allows its user to record and keep track of their sporting activity with a focus in cycling at the beginning. The goal is to allow them to upload their activities and progress, record their personal best, share it amongst their cycling groups and teams and motivating each other. While also allowing them to keep themselves accountable for workouts and training activities their teammates and friends are doing. As much of cycling is a group sport, it can also be very lonely, the 2nd goal of this product is to build a stronger communities within each local clubs and groups allowing for easier communication between teammates and friends. While other services such as Strava and RidewithGPS are similar, a lot of the information is buried under feed updates and there is no real communication channels available.
Currently using Figma for design and whiteboard/planning, hosting my code on GitHub with the frontend being developed with React and Backend in NodeJS.
